Joao is a supporting character in The Book of Life. He along with the other detention kids go to a museum on a class field trip and are told the story of Mexico, his only major moment in the movie was when Jane asked if it was "Gorge-yourself-on-halloween-candy Day" and he was seen with a mouth full of candy.

Joao has curly blonde hair, green eyes and wears a little hat. He is thin and tall, in fact, he is the tallest of the students. He is seen wearing a uniform.

- Unlike Sanjay, Jane, Sasha and Luka Ramirez, Joao is the only kid who doesn't speak in the film.
- Jorge Gutierrez confirmed on his Twitter that Joao doesn't speak because he is non verbal.[1]
